The Millenium Orchestra

Artistic Director: Leonardo García Alarcón
Assistant : Eric Mathot

A new arrival in the world of music played on ancient instruments, the Millenium Orchestra unites the most talented musicians from diverse backgrounds under the same banner, to share their passion for music and desire for excellence.  Its members come from several generations of specialists in ancient music and play on original instruments adapted to different baroque, classical or even romantic repertoires.

With Leonardo García Alarcón’s encouragement, the orchestra strives to be original in its programme choices and in its interpretative approach to masterpieces of the past as well as unpublished scores.

Created in 2014, the Millenium Orchestra has taken part in musical events and festivals since February 2015. In its first productions, the orchestra took on Mozart, with soprano Jodie Devos. ‘Le concert de Vienne 1783’, the CD recording of this work was lauded by the press and exceptionally well received by the public.

In 2016, the Millenium Orchestra recorded Scarlatti’s the Passion according to Saint-Jean with the Chamber Choir of Namur and played in the impressive production of Donizetti’s Requiem at the Festival of Saint-Denis.

Millenium Orchestra is funded by the Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles (department of music and dance), the Belgian National Lottery, and the City and Province of Namur.
